I was writing a friend and realized it should be posted here too:
I'm a little tired of travelin... I'm looking forward to staying put in one place for a while...! It feels almost like an addiction... like a drug... it's great fun but in the long run sometimes I think it's not that good for me -- because I do it too much. A trip every now and then is great... but I feel like I've been traveling almost nonstop since I left Valencia. It's like I've been eating really great meals for almost a year without swallowing. Chew it up, spit it out, prepare the next meal, repeat. Sooner or later I'm gonna have to digest it all too...
I feel like a jerk when I complain about the life I'm living, which is one that most people dream about... when people ask me what I've been up to, and I tell them, they often remark that I'm "living the dream"...
It definitely is a dream... I remember when I lived a more normal life, I dream about having the freedom to travel, to live and work wherever I wanted... paradoxically now that I have that life I dream of having stability... all of my records in one place... a band... a family? Don't get me wrong, I still dream about travels and adventure -- I don't think that will ever end! But there are certain things that I'm missing out on by never stopping. And I dream more and more often of those things.
Last night I was one of five DJs at an art opening / concert / party here in Rome. Pretty cool. Tonight we do it again, but I think it's going to be better -- the bands seem like they'll be more my speed. The bands last night were good, but I've never been that into the pop-punk. Especially Italian pop-punk. I liked Screeching Weasel, but never any of their imitators. And the Italian pop-punkers ripped off the Screeching Weasel look and sound more blatantly than anyone else on the planet. I always tell my friends in bands over here, "you're Italians, sing in Italian!!" There's nothing special about your band if you imitate the yankees -- except that your English is even more fucked up.
Time to go.
